I already owned the Kuretake "Starry Colors" set when I ordered this one...and honestly only ordered this Komorebi set because I caught it on sale and because it has a broader range of colors than the name brand set I already own and love. I didn't have very high expectations from what I judged to be perhaps a generic knock-off product. Actually, these paints are very very similar to the name brand product. They are full pans!! Pans are removable from the cardboard packaging if you want to put them into your own palette box. The paints themselves perform almost identically to the Kuretake paints. There is one gold in the Kuretake that is just hands down the best, most vivid and beautiful metallic watercolor gold out of the 2 dozen or so competitors I have personally tried, and it might be worth it to buy that set just for that particular paint; however, that set only contains 5 shades of gold and one white. If you are ok with just gold and white, the Kuretake paints are slightly better quality, but the differences are almost negligible. The Komorebi paints, which I am reviewing do contain a good gold, and have a much better range of metallic colors (not limited to just gold). So bottom line, if you want a superb set with several various metallic colors, then definitely buy this set. You won't be disappointed. These are much better than any store brand or any other generic watercolor paint I have tried. The paints lay down smooth, not clumpy nor chalky. They're exactly as they should be, and really amazing quality and amount of paint for this price!! These are actually better quality than some name brand metallics that cost more, but difficult to really compare sets with dozens of colors to this one that only has 6. This is a very budget friendly set, especially considering that they are full pan sized paints. They're very versatile in how you can use them: watercolor painting--obviously--but also can use them to apply truly brilliant effects in coloring book images that you can't get with metallic pencils. These can also be splattered onto mixed media, home made cards, or scrapbook layouts etc to give a unique, abstract shimmering accent.

These are the whole beginner shebang!! I waited for awhile on these, getting better WC's for better results.... but these are the perfect creaminess, sheerness and brightness for playing with watercolor flow!! I thought they were more like novelty, but no, these are essential! Start here for your "cheap paints" and have a ton of fun, no matter what level you're at!! They really pop on Baohong's cold press paper and glaze well in general on a variety of papers I tried them on. They have granulation and texture... I'm so delighted!! I love the full size pans for my dagger brushes too. I wish there were emoji's in the reviews to capture my enthusiasm!! *The neon green was the only non-creamy/hard to pick up paint. But I already have the Paul Rubens neon, so I'm good on that. Also, I pulled the hinges out a bit, so I could disconnect the two and put top lid underneath the bottom, to conserve space. It works like I want it too!! (Will add photos someday when have a better phone!) These are my happy paints!! :-)

These are by far my favorite metallics. I love how rich the colors are and how smooth and vibrant they brush on. They’re my most used colors.

I mainly use water colours when doing traditional art, so I’ve tried pretty hard to find actually good metallic paints, but these colours pass the mark !!! They blend well, you can mix them with other colours to create coloured shimmers, and it’s easy to get different opacities by adding more water just like with regular pigments. I 100% recommend these, I was genuinely distraught when I noticed I’d lost my pallet and immediately ordered a new one. The one I had precisely I bought years ago and almost all the pans were still full so they definitely last a good while !! I also love that the tins are removable so it’s easy to make sure the colours aren’t mixing and getting messy !

I’m so glad I read the reviews first. I was going to splurge on the brand name version, but as a hobbyist and not actual artist, I just could justify the expense. Anyway, these are so pretty and makes my watercolor art look amazing.

I like the earth tone colors in this palette. It has a nice shimmer. I wish it was a little bit stronger, but it works well with my watercolor art.

When I first purchased, these, I wasn’t expecting very much having never heard of the brand before. But look at those colors, they’re beautiful. I swatch the entire pallet and found some of my favorites. Paynes gray isnt a gray. It has a blue undertone, beautiful. There are vibrant metallics, some of which are more vibrant than others like metallic purple kind of came out a little dull but metallic gold., absolutely shines. There are neon colors which I really love the green is a little muted and but the rest are really good. The other colors that are in the pallet are really nice. beautiful blues, greens. The turquoise green is really beautiful. I think it’s just turquoise, but I it looks more to the green side to me but maybe others would say blue. I think this pallet has much to offer and I can’t wait to paint my first painting with it. I absolutely love the colors and I even tried removing colors once they were laid down. I was successful in removing a color by you know going in and scrubbing it a bit and then using a towel to dab it off. It took about three times but it worked. Will definitely buy again.... :)LOVE😍

I am absolutely loving the bright neon coverage of the pinks, orange, and yellow. So fun to work with. Green and blue aren't really "neon" though so I haven't used them aside from initial swatch testing.

If what you want is a touch (or more) of neon, you will not be disappointed. These definitely "glow" I don't use them often, but once in a while I like a bit of neon in my paintings.

I just completed my watercolor swatches on the color swatch sheet, included in the set. I was THOROUGHLY IMPRESSED with the temperament and pigmentation of this bundle of colors which are incorporated into, Mozart's - Kobereshi watercolors; in three various genres in one. You get the majority of basic colors, a few neon colors, as well as metallics. The metallic colors are AMAZING...I promise anyone who's pondering the thought of buying these, will NOT be disappointed. Seriously, for the expense, you will not be disappointed. Just the opposite, quite pleased. I might have to add a disclaimer: these are my level watercolors. If for some reason, you are looking for professional quality paints - you'd already know what to look for. However, just as in life, you never know what might surprise you in the most unexpected of ways. These paints have that effect, in my opinion. Compared to my highly pigmented and rather expensive set of watercolors from the Russian brand - St. Petersburg 'White Knights'...In many ways, I appreciate these Mozart branded watercolors better. They're especially great for a quick "sloppy" [what I call the Wet on Wet technique] slightly impressionistic painting, these are way better suited than White Knights or Howard Newton, etc. The more granulated pigments of higher-end, break the bank paints, I would save until one knows how to operate the techniques of watercolors finer points. Which are mind-blowing, to be honest. If you're a novice or mid-level groover, hands down the best paints are right here. PERIOD.

I’m a beginner, and this was my first palette from this brand. I LOVE these paints. The pan size is larger than any others I’ve purchased, they’re super bright! The photos I posted were from a wet on wet technique, so they are even more intense on dry paper. Almost blinding neons. If there were one thing I would change about these — it would be the container they are in. The component that holds the paint after you slide them out of the sleeve is cardboard. I didn’t look into that before purchasing — so that’s my fault. Also, I feel for the price of these paints, it’s not the worst thing in the world that the component that holds them is cardboard. I’d rather the money be spent on the quality of the paint over the packaging. I can pop the pans into another palette somehow if I choose to. There is a plastic piece that you put over them before sliding back into the sleeve, so that’s fine for me. I also purchased the metallic palette this brand offers and that was equally as impressive. My next purchase will be their 40 color palette.

After over a decade, I decided to pick up watercolors again-but this, with a lot more research on the best paper, brushes and paints for a 'Re-Beginner'. :) Watercolor artist and teacher 'Kristi Rice' shared a lovely review on one of her Youtube videos, regarding 'Good Palettes for Beginners', and I was *immediately* sold. And seeing seasoned Pro-Watercolorist 'Lioba Bruckner' using them with excellent results in her videos, didn't exactly hurt either. I've used this palette twice now, and I am really crazy about both the color option, but the amount and variety as well. Formerly, I only had a little Mini Cotman Travel Palette, so it was so refreshing to own such something bigger with more to choose from. Finally, I love that you get both *metallics* and *neons* in this mix, as well. I would highly recommend this palette for anyone who collects watercolor palettes/supplies, is a beginner to intermediate artist, is on a budget or simply wants to enjoy something new in their watercolor paints collection!
This is a fantastic set of paints for the money. Here are my personal highlights: • They reconstitute (to a nice buttery consistency) quite well if you prefer to apply the “pure paint” to the paper or if you want to mix a larger amount of your own creation of a color and want it to stay concentrated. • They are indeed highly pigmented and do not have the curse of the “cheap paint filler haze” as you paint with them. • They interact well with salt, of course for best results, you sparingly apply the salt to the freshest water + paint areas as you go and then stop touching and/or moving that area. • They interact and mix well with other watercolors, specifically in my case, I generally use fine art, higher quality, genuine pigment, tube paints. These MozArt paints have mixed, influenced, and interacted well with all the other paints I use and have done well on and adhered to all of the many many varied media surface types I work on. • I was very surprised and delighted with the brightness and the transparency of the neon colors in particular! I would very very much love to buy them in tube form, were they available, because I can envision lots of applications I would have for them. • The metallic colors are excellent as well. They work great as a finishing shimmer on top if the painting or mixed right in with the rest of your color of choice. When whetted appropriately, they are opaque and make for a snazzy signature on the front of your painting! Bottom line: Yes, these paints are worth your time, money, and effort. When used on and with a medium or nicer quality paper, you will not be disappointed in their pigmentation, consistency, intensity, mixing possibilities, and overall level of snazziness.

These are such good quality paints at an amazing price. You won’t be disappointed. I didn’t expect much because I had already purchased a comparable product at roughly the same price point but was so disappointed with that purchase. I was considering purchasing a much more expensive product but chose these based off the pictures people posted here and I’m so glad I did. The painting I posted is still in progress but I hope it gives you an idea of what a great set of paints these are.

Holy bright and vibrant!! I wasn’t expecting much for the price (I actually bought these bc I was trying to not spend $30 on a new set of neon watercolors from my favorite artist, which I ended up buying anyway lol) but I am truly shocked by how vivid these paints are!!!! I had to cut my own swatch sheet, no big deal. When purchasing this set I was actually kind of bummed there wasn’t a purple, but on the swatch card you can see the pink & blue created a beautiful neon purple. On the swatch card, the top row is the color straight from the pans. The 2nd row is a blend, I wrote the name of the color I added to the color above (so under pink there’s purple & I wrote “blue” bc that’s what I added to that color to create purple. I didn’t try mixing the red & blue yet but I’m sure it’s beautiful.) On the back of the cards are 2 more mixes I included a pic of, I just combined the colors listed with the white coming from a prima watercolor set. I have another swatch card nearby in one of my pics. On that card, the top row is kuretake’s Gem Colors palette & below’s some expensive watercolor I bought on amazon but it has disappeared from my purchases so I don’t know who makes them, they’re EXTREMELY OPAQUE, pastel watercolors. The reason I left all that in the pic is to show by contrast how bright these colors are.... Hope this was helpful!

The watercolors were easy to activate but it's important to not use too much water. If applied fairly concentrated, the watercolors are fairly opaque. I reccomend to put a little water in and let the watercolors soak in the water for a few minutes. They don't work the best by themselves. It may be my personal opinion, but they work better as accents over regular watercolors. I do want to mention they have a slight chemical like smell but it's not very strong. I've attached some swatches that I made of each color. The light gold seemed very silver like with a yellow undertone. The copper seemed slightly less smooth than the rest but not significantly. The pans are a tad shallow. They dont look like extruded watercolors so I was not expecting them to be brimming watercolor but I was hoping for more. The height and width is probably a little bigger than a regular full pan. However, I still find these good value for their price. These are significantly cheaper than finetec, a more popular and expensive metallic watercolor brand. I bought this for about $9 for six color will finetec usually goes around six colors for $25. Personally, I have not used the finetec brand but am very satisfied with these Mozart ones . I would definitely reccomend this, especially as a gift since it's sort of a specialty item.

I was expecting these to be chalky and rough and hard to wet, based on another review I read, but they aren't. They are super-pigmented, creamy, easy to rewet, and CRAZY vibrant, especially on 100% cotton paper. I was really shocked by the quality of these, I have to admit, especially for the lower price tag. They are comparable in texture to the Gansai Tambai (maybe a little less smooth, but these are super opaque because of the neon pigment particles, so there will be a little texture to them so that the paint really "shines" on the paper and doesn't just turn into an uneven neon-tinted watery slime on the paper that is just binder. I had some student grade neon watercolor a few years back (the only ones I could find at the time) and these are incredibly higher in quality. If you are looking for neon watercolors, these are great. Just know that neon pigments are a little bit rougher as far as particle size, and that in order to be super bright, they can't be overly transparent. You can get these down to a pretty transparent wash, but they are meant to be used intensely.

Although I've never been to Paris, the richness of these colors make me think of what I might see walking along the streets! They won't be soon forgotten! My rating is low for a beginner because to paint well with watercolors, takes practice and a beginner is not going to have that. It is also my very strong belief that if the person isn't already an avid painter of other mediums, they will find watercolors difficult and frustrating. I do NOT however discourage painting of any kind! Simply want everyone to know that its not the easiest choice of paint to begin your journey. Have fun Everyone!!!

I got this due to the reviews, size, colors, and value. Like many there was a little issue with pans not being filled full. Mine from Amazon came with two pans overfilled, most are nearly full and one was less than 1/2 full....which was very odd. The pans are large and you will have plenty of paint and room to move your brush around. On top of that, lots of pigment. You need to do the swatches as the colors will be different on paper. Glad they provide the chart inside the box. I wanted to do the swatches and tried it out with a few practices before doing this review as I am brand new to watercolor. It is fun and easy to mix. Note I used cheap paper (and very cheap brush) for practice so if you use nice paper,it will be much better. Overall as you can see, it has a nice smooth color/finish. Even wash even for someone who does not know how to use this medium yet. A little goes a long way. It's easy to reactivate the pain that I used the time before. It's easy as I only use two of the same colors for practice. Nothing goes to waste and for sure these pans will last for a very long time.

A previous reviewer correctly said Japanese pans while were not full, in Japanese fashion, contained richly pigmented colors. You have to adjust pigment load in order to produce sheet watercolor effects. That being said this set is packed full of creamy almost gouache like watercolors. The set is 48 colors, mostly richly pigmented colors for under $12.00. The regular colors I’d give a 24/24 for creamy intensely pigmented options. The Neons a 2/6 for truly neon but the other colors work just in general for other projects. The Metallics I’d give a 5/8 for color brilliance and opacity. So, that’s my take after swatching everything out. I’m very, very happy. My Qors have nice boutique colors but my Komorebi watercolor set is a close second.

I'm extremely pleased with these. The pigments are great and they're very easy to work with. As an artist, I have an addiction to trying new watercolors and I very highly recommend these whether you're a novice or at more advanced level.

In love with these paints. I bought these because I love metallics and have a hard time finding good ones for use in illustration and watercolor, however these are great. I love the range of colors, as most are only gold variants, but the rose gold/copper was such a nice change. I definitely wouldn't say these are a beginner paint in terms of ease of use. You do have to let water sit in the pans for a while to get the pay off that you want, similarly to other brands like Kuretake paints. As with Kuretake paints, they aren't exactly professional quality either, not because the pigment payoff isn't good, but because these types of paints aren't really watercolors because of the mediums that suspends the pigment. They tend to use different binders than typical watercolors, some of which can be animal products, so you'll want to do your research before using these if you are concerned about that. Lightfastness and acidity is another concern for the life of your artwork. However, many professional use these kinds of paints anyways. The longevity isn't always a big issue for artists, so if you want to try these out because you think they'll be cool, I definitely recommend it!

I'm not an artist per se, but I use this watercolor set to paint abstract designs and stamped images. The colors are rich, and the metallic paints really pop. The set comes with a swatch chart that you can fill in as you wish. This set is worth every penny!
